01 — The plan
Garnacha country: small cellars that open their doors if you call ahead.
Time needed
Half a day
Best time
September and October
Good for
Couples, wine lovers
Across the border in Catalonia, Terra Alta grows white garnacha on terraces that have been worked for centuries. Most cellars are small family places: phone ahead and someone will open the door.

What to expect
A visit is usually the vineyard, the cellar and a tasting at a long table, about an hour and a half in all. Many of the cellars still sell wine in bulk, so bring an empty bottle if you want to take the house white home.
How we plan it
We can book two visits in a morning and a long lunch in Gandesa, where the co-operative cellar is a modernist building worth seeing even if you don’t drink. Leave the car at the house and we’ll arrange a driver.
Plan it with us
We lend bikes, pack a picnic and book guides. Ask the night before and it’s ready when you wake up.
Bikes and helmets, free for guests
Picnic from the kitchen, €14 per person
Maps and routes printed at reception
02 — Getting there
How to get there
40 minutes by car through Calaceite and Batea. Leave the car at the house and we’ll arrange a driver.
